Couldn't make it to the gym... Was really nausiated from the formaldyhide (dissected frogs and crayfish today). Will see how it goes tomorrow. But I did get an A on Bio test today... I think she purposefully dumbed down the test, based on the class average for the first exam. Tomorrow I have 3 assignments to do, 3 chapters to read, Key terms for two, and I have to find my sources for my psyche paper. Hopefully I can still think when I'm done!

Bluch, that has to be one of the most horrible smells on the planet.  Only like to dissect crayfish when they're smothered in chilli and lime butter.  Nice one on the test, hope you're brain is not about to explode.  I've spent the evening comparing DNA sequences (doing some consulting work) and I can't see straight anymore.

Used to hit crayfish with my golf club when they would venture onto the course.  Only thing I ever saw them useful for.....eating,  not in this life time.

Studying DNA sequence sounds like fun.  I think I will go watch some paint dry.

what job do you compare DNA sequences with?? What degree do you get for that? It actually sounds interesting a bit on the tedious side but still interesting

Someone spent money on this research and all they had to do was ask me!!!

After all, losing weight is a game of “calories in, calories out”—and if you replace one can of sugary soda per day with a zero-calorie alternative, you’ll save more than 1,000 calories a week. That’s the equivalent of about a pound a month.

But here’s the rub: The researchers say this only works if people do not overcompensate by eating lots of high-calorie foods. And that can be tricky, especially because other research shows sweetness, regardless of its source, increases the desire for sweet-tasting foods—and a craving for real calories.

Well gang of mine I have been thinking and you know that is always a bad thing coming from me.  I was thinking about things in my past that I had an epiphany about and it got me thinking.  See about 38 years ago I thought drugs were way cool.  Then one day I got to thinking that drugs never made me smarter, better a sports or cuter to the fairer sex.  So I wondered what the heck I was doing it for, Answer was for NOTHING!!.  So that was the end of that at the ripe old age of 16.  Then again about 30 years ago when I was still drinking and getting hangovers I asked myself the same type of question:  What was I gaining by losing days of my life with massive hangovers?  Answer:  NOTHING.  So now I have a glass of wine now and again,  but that is about it.  Now I have asked myself the same question about smoking and the answer again to "What am I gaining?" is NOTHING.  It does cost me a couple hundred dollars a month,  It does give me an excuse to stop doing something that I am doing,  but a gain NO.  Heck I would take cigs on my Triathlons just in case I decided to take a break.  If I run longer then 6 miles I carry them with me.  So next week (wed, thur or Fri) I am going to break up with my best friend of 40 years.  I just hope I have the mental toughness to do it.  I must say that I am scared already and I haven't done it yet.  Smoking is the one thing in my life that has stayed constant and always there if I needed them.  I am going to attempt cold turkey since I can't see substituting one drug for another.  So for my 53rd birthday (Mar 9)  I am going to give myself the gift of breathing.  I think I will start a thread of this in COJ and try to make myself accountable to more people.  Wish me luck gang and maybe my runs will even improve.  Oh heck,  I am sure my weight will suffer but I will deal with that with you guys when that time comes.  Thanks for being here Team Skinny.

Brian

Brian just do it!  Don't wait until March 9.  We are all behind you!  My boyfriend quit smoking about eleven years ago and he still chews nicotine gum.  Try anything that works.

the computer program does the comparing, I have to peer at little stars to show where any mutations are.  I got one of these degrees for folks who aren't sure what they want to do; biology, psychology, sociology and economics.  Followed that up with Foundation Arts and an MBA (which I will one day finish).  Drifited into research, first in reproductive biology and latterly in genetics of cholestrol problems.   Then I did my best work and had a baby.  Have been out the lab for 5 years and the Munchkin is now at school full-time, so doing a bit of consulting for a biotech company while I decide what to do.  I NEVER want to work in a lab ever again.  What fills your time Katie (apart from this, of course)?

Well Custer I admit that I am a "BIT" conservative in my views.

Weight:  155.2

Down: 1.2 from last. Hope this keeps up but I have my doubts.

I fill my time with a 40 hour work week and 15-18 hours of school. Thank God most of the friends work at my gym or spend lots of time there. Wow. that would be so neat to get to look at DNA. I am alwaysed amazed at the human body!! Especially on a cellular level and smaller. Unfortunantly it does not make much sense to me so I am a Public Relations major. (recently changed from a health major). Good luck on your MBA.

I didn't have the best of weeks ...

last week: 199.4
this week: 200.2

Up 0.8. I have nothing to blame but myself ... all started with one piece of chocolate and went rapidly downhill after some family fighting.

But I have lost 6.8 lbs for the month.

Only goal for next week is to be back below 200 again!!!

I am back "below the red line" on my spreadsheet that is mapping where I have to be to meet my goal by the end of July, but barely.

Also, I have reinjured my calf from doing who knows what, so I won't be able to bike or walk for a couple of days. At least I can still swim, do core work and lift weights this time.

Got up this morning, drank my liter of water before I realized it was Wednesday, so I didn't weigh in, although I don't foresee a loss this week. I will be very happy with maintaining or not gaining much, as I have been pretty pathetic this week.

Kadams, congrats on finally seeing those numbers move! Keep up the hard work, it will pay off.

I'm back up a pound  to 128...I've missed a couple (or so!) workouts, but my eating has been OK. But I feel like this is water or hormonal or something...WHATEVER!!!
