Comments:

Tried to keep up with the overall winner, who beat me by another length of the pool. She was seriously moving, and at about 500 yards in, I just gave up on tracking her and focused on my own swim.

Comments:

I realized quickly that a spin bike has a weighted fly wheel and will pick up velocity as you pedal harder. I dropped the thing to almost no resistance and pedaled like mad for 20 minutes. HR topped out at 145.

This is really not a true indicator of speed or ability.

Comments:

I should have pushed this harder. At the time, I thought I was, but in retrospect, I could have gone a bit harder.

Event comments:

For a first time race event, it was good. And since it was in the middle of February, it was great to just test myself.

My friends and I had fun at this event.  The spin bike setup was a little weird.  I felt like I was doing 200 rpms.  You must have been doing 400rpm!  This was my first real triathlon and I think it was valuable experience, especially for the swim part.  It is humbling to give 100% in the water only to find out almost everybody lapped me.  I guess all of you have helped me to identify my main weakness.

Hang in there. Swimming is a skill that takes lots of practice.

It's like golf. Ever play with those 80-year old guys, who seem to use almost no energy but then hit the ball 200 yards? It's the same in the pool. The more you do it, the better you get.

There's a few of us who swim pretty regularly in the morning. Come join us.
