Total Time = 2h 01m 29s
Overall Rank = 99/228
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 7/22
Pre-race routine:

ate an english muffin with peanut butter and drank a bottle of water.
Event warmup:

i did minimal stretching because i needed to pick up my chip and the line for that was long.
Run

Comments:

i started out really well and felt very good for the first three miles or so. i had a hard time during the second out and back (miles four and five) because it took considerable maneuvering on the course. i did really well on the way back from there and to the final turnaround. the last two miles i was pretty tired and took intermittent 5second walk breaks. i ate gu a couple of times and i think that helped me psychologically more than anything. i really wanted to finish under two hours and according to my watch i finished in 1:59:58. according to the race clock i finished about a minute and a half later than that. oh well, something to work for!
What would you do differently?:

i would have walked a little less and wouldn't have started out quite so fast.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, ate some oranges and waited for my friend to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

i kinda bonked during miles four and five and walked more than i should have. also, because of the terrain, i had a lot of pain in my right knee and ankle.

Event comments:

the event started a little late because a lot of people hadn't gotten their chips as of the start time. i'm not sure if it's customary, but everyone's chip started when the gun went off, not when we passed the starting line. i feel like i could have beaten two hours if my start time was when i passed the starting line.

Course: the course was almost entirely a trail run. it was pretty flat with a few gradual hills. in places the terrain was pretty rough. in one area it was very rocky and in another it was very loose soil, so it took some maneuvering. the course was out and back to the left, past the start out and back a few miles to the right and then a repeat of the first out and back.

Congrats on your first half mary.

It is a cool distance to run and despite its name is a race unto itself.

Don't worry about the difference between your clock and the race clock. I always accept the race clock results with a grain of salt and record them but in my own mind my watch is the final word on my results.

You ran a good race in warm weather on what sounds like a bit of a technical course with rocky terrain and loose footing and were in the top 10 in your AG and finished in the top 100. Can't argue with results like that!
