Overcast
Total Time = 1h 11m 1s
Overall Rank = 55/264
Age Group = novice female
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

Had to wait a long time before the swim. Ate oatmeal for breakfast then a cliff bar about 1 1/2 hours before my swim
Event warmup:

100 in pool
Swim
  • 05m 48s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

felt good, fluid but did not over exert. Still felt pretty good, I was just worried about the 6'4 guy behind me catching me- which he didnt :o)
What would you do differently?:

finish stronger- last 25 could have been a little better
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

good tranisition for the first time. Rookie mistake of putting my helmet on then trying to put on my long sleeve shirt- DUH- Minor clip in issue but took my time rather than rushing it and falling
Bike
  • 38m 57s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.40 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt OK on the bike, was initially worried about the no drafting rules etc. but there werent enough people on the road to worry about it. I tried to keep it around 17 mph- but not sure, didnt set bike computer up well before. Felt I could go faster but wasnt sure where I was on the course and didnt want to burn too much energy. Right calf cramped up a bit- took in some water and it was better. I thought I was faster than the auto calc says
What would you do differently?:

become more familiar with the course to know how far I had to go still. Computer helped but sometimes land marks are better. Take in more water
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

transition felt good. tried to rack the bike from the front but didnt fit well so I turned it around quickly to rack from the seat- now I know. No prob putting shoes on. Only trouble was trying to buckle Garmin on- forgot to take off other watch. Ended up running with watch in one hand and putting garmin on then putting watch on right hand. No big deal, just akward. Good thing is that I remembered to turn Garmin on when I went to T1
What would you do differently?:

take off watch first.
Run
  • 26m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 27s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good on the run. tried to stay well under 9 min miles. Able to catch the guy that killed me on the bike. That felt good. Glad it was only a 5k but felt pretty strong throught the whole thing.
What would you do differently?:

try a bit faster and not fuss with Garmin so much
Post race
Warm down:

what warm down?

Event comments:

great race- I dont have anything to compare it too but they did a great job. Well marked course. Plenty of volunteers. Nice that they do awards throught the time so the fast people dont have to sit around for 5 hours!
