I Acheived my goal today with a hilly run yesterday and big organized ride today We did 53 miles and unfortunately I witnessed two crashes . Now back to swimming and running 53 miles? wow! 2 crashes - bummer man. I cringe every time I hear about bike crashes whether they are bike to bike, bike to car, or bike to ditch/field/pavement... Speaking of biking...did this nature trail thing with my son today and I pointed out a redwing black bird and said "those are the birds that dive bomb Mommy when she rides her bike" Along with a helmut, maybe we need a coat of armor! Maybe You need to ride a Tandem with a rear gunner to keep them birds at BAy I enjoyed the ride but I would not do it again as it was too slow and the group was too large which led to confusion and sudden braking in very odd areas , also as we followed the Rules and stayed to the right we ended being separated from the advanced group , a squad car came in front of us and slowed us down even more , to rejoin our group I tried to pass the car a few times but it was very aggressively cutting us off the lead group weaving back and forth . On a hill heading into Boyle heights I successfully passed it and headed straight to the lead group passing on the left and aggressively attacked and made my way to the head maintained my position near the front . My buddy Dave did not and ended up with 50 other riders cut off from the group in no mans land , they then made their way to the rest stop without the escort having to stop at all the red lights . after the rest at Hollywood Bowl the popos in front had at times the group going 14-15mph which is very slow in a large pack this caused a lot of bunching up which led to bike crashes and falls . One rider was Ok after his fall , more embarassed than bruised , One other rider who fell needed to visit the ER . Food and rest stop and parking were all very well organized . The course covered some of the LA Triathlon and LA MArathon routes so it was cool to scout in that regard . Some bystanders shouted mostly good and curious comments and of course one grumpy dude called us all a bunch a fags ! LOL There was a nice cheerleading group at the last climb on academy rd which was really cool . |
