Bike wanted (am willing to beg for good deal)!!

what size do yo need

Believe it or not, I purchased my first road bike 2 years ago from Target for $18.  Now, the original price was $160...and it was on a rediculous sale.  I had to upgrade the wheels to a cheap quick release set ($150) and shoes and pedals ($200)...which I knew nothing about until I was trying to keep up with the local bikers.  18mph was godlike on that bike especially using platform pedals.  It weighed in at 28lbs.  However, it was enough to get me started...and it was dirt cheap.  If money is an issue...that is always a good place to start...you can always upgrade to a "real" bike when you have the cash flow.  Just think of it as additional training...so when you get your "real" bike, you'll be smoking everyone. 

Hi, apparently the size depends on the brand... I'm 5ft 6". I was looking at a 2 year old SUB Zero (apparently a good starter for a woman) ... at this stage, apparently I need something fairly light with the full 24 gears (as my legs aren't that strong)....

I guess we need your definition of a Good deal.  I am surprised that you cant find a good deal at a used bike store.  have you checked around on Craigslist.

Bikesdirect has alot of bikes for under $400. But you aren't getting the greatest bike on the planet.
