If you want people to look at you as though you have two heads growing out of your neck, try this after your next race...

I went to the Dairy Queen in Buffalo, Texas on my way home from my race yesterday. Of course, I was rushing home to relieve my friend who was babysitting for us, so I did not have time to change after the race. So there I was, ordering a Belt-Buster combo meal wearing my Pearl Izumi Trishorts and Trishirt, with a big 'ole 288 painted on my right arm and leg.

The looks from the locals were priceless. That was worth more than the hamburger and fries, that's for sure.

That's very comical!
I am sure others have had the same experience as me and have had race numbers tatooed into your arm/leg because the sunscreen wore off! Very attractive!

You certainly gave the old timers at the Dairy Queen something to talk about for a while. What I find ironic is that a "healthy" triathlete is ordering a Belt-Buster meal. I am glad that I am not the only one to "endulge".

We had a tradition of going to the bar after a long bike ride, so we'd be sitting there having our pints in the trek shorts and all.

The reverse would be funny as well, show up for the bike club ride in a fast food uniform.

The parramatta bunch i ride with every saturday morning here in sydney usually turns a few heads... a turn out of 100 riders is not uncommon as we ride through the western suburbs somewhat like a tour peloton. sometimes we have a few tour de france riders in the bunch such as 2003 sprinters jersey winner Baden cooke, or Bradley McGee. After the ride we ride into the parramatta CBD for breakfast, everyone still decked out in complete lycra gear. certainly beats getting up at 5.30 to ride by yourself!

Not tri related, but certainly similar.

Besides Tri, one of the other sports/activities I do is English Hunter/Jumper Equestrian riding. Not anything super advanced, basic walk/trot/canter, jump over small ( under 3' ) fences and just generally do it because it's fun. Typical riding attire though is form fitting britches, sweater ( it's still cold outside here ), boots, and knee-high half chaps.

Driving to the stable one weekend, realized I was nearly out of gas. So I had to stop and fill-up. That got some interesting looks, as I was standing there at the pump, in full equestian riding gear, as a 6' guy, putting gas into a black mustang gt. I think I dispelled a few stereotypes that day.

I just thought of another funny thing that happened to me on a ride. I thought it would be nice to stop in at a convenience store for a cool sports drink on a hot day. I forgot about the perils of bike shoes on a slippery floor and went skidding across the store in front of many university students. I took a bow, because what else can you do? My bike buddy at the time was outside in hysterics.
The things we do for fun...

I wish there was an emoticon for "green with envy" over that ride through Sydney. I just moved (way) up north from Melbourne 6 months ago and I'm looking out my window at snow. Ouch. Ever been on the Saturday Hell Ride out Beach Rd?
