Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:30am. had breakfast and got into my Santos gear. :) Loaded the bikes onto our NEW ROOF RACKS and headed down the coast. Parked at main beach and rode up to the spit. Set up transition and worked on "rules"

Caught up with my team and talked tactics. Watched the boys take off.

Stacey took off at 7:42am and had a fabulous leg.
Event warmup:

After her swim I went for a warm up swim myself and headed up to the "changeover" area. Jumped around for a bit in the shade waiting for her to come in.

Cheered on my teammates as they swapped their bands over. Cheered on my Fiance` as he recieved his chip and bolted off. I got my chip about two minutes later.

At 0:57:41 - Stacey came in, gave me the chip and away I went!

Comments:

I BOLTED for the swim, falling into the "pot holes" other competitors had left for us... I ran until the water was at mid thigh height and started swimming (I'm a faster swimmer than runner - so I did that!) Drafted off some blokes feet for a bit before swinging wide around the buoy to avoid the breast strokers.

tucked in close to the second buoy and sprinted for home. Two handfuls of dirt before I stood up. Cap and goggles off, earplugs out and off I run!
What would you do differently?:

Flawless swim today. Nothing - Just keep working on speed!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

The RUN into transition was long. I've noticed this is where I am MOST tired is after the hard swim to shore and hard run into transition, I felt myself cramping up.

TA rules were MODIFIED for this event - Race belt with number had to be warned on the ride. Who was I to argue...

Long run in the dust out to the mount line - Ran out and mounted quickly and WAS OFF!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...
Bike
  • 25m 9s
  • 10 kms
  • 23.86 km/hr
Comments:

The service Tim had done on my bike during the week worked WONDERS! After getting my shoes on I was AWAY and up to 35kph almost straight away! Felt good so i focused on dodging other athletes.

NO WOMEN PASSED ME!!!
What would you do differently?:

Go faster. :)
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Perfect dismount today. Ran into transition and was about to rack my bike when a volunteer grabbed the back of my bike and racked it for me... Uh - Okay... Didn't need the help but appreciated it anyway.

What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure... Would have let the volunteer rack for me if I knew that's what he was supposed to do.
Run
  • 24m 4s
  • 4 kms
  • 06m 01s  min/km
Comments:

FELT REALLY GOOD on the run today. My "uniform" shirt was annoying the heck out of me so I rolled it up under my sports bra and turned it into a crop...

Water was great at each station but the cups were a bit different so the water splashed around a lot... Overtook a lot of women at the drinks stations (they walked - I ran!)

Caught up to another Santos Team mate and high fived her as I ran past.

As soon as I saw the flags for the "race compound" I ran as hard as I could back!

up to the fence and gave the chip over to Sylvia. Who proceded to swim bike and run a time of 58:28 getting us 22nd place for the womens wave!!!! WELL DONE GIRLS!
Post race
Event comments:

The suspense of waiting for your teammate to come in after completing their leg is a fantastic way to start! The suspense of being the 2nd member made it so much more interesting and difficult to tell where you are in the race!
A great event. I'd love to race it again!
