Age Group Rank = 1/14
Pre-race routine:

A couple of waffles and a cup of coffee.
Downed a gel right before the start.
Event warmup:

15 minute run.
Swim
  • 10m 55s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

For some reason I had to breath every other stroke. I'm not sure what happenend.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe not go out quite as hard. However I felt pretty good about my swim time.
Transition 1
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Went pretty smoothly.
Bike
  • 37m 44s
  • 14 miles
  • 22.26 mile/hr
Comments:

I think I could have pushed a little harder. The fastest bike split got me by 1 minute.
I felt a bit nauseous for the first several miles so I thought I was pushing the right pace. That 1 minute I got beat makes me wonder if I could hav egone a little harder.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed just a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m 38s
Comments:

I entered T2 with another guy in a younger age group but I beat him out. He had better running legs than me but I put a bunch of time into him on the bike.
I fumbled a little with one shoe, costing me a few seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 24m 52s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

I have been struggling with IT band issues for about a month. At the halfway point my knee siezed up. I was able to push through but my pace slowed a little.
What would you do differently?:

Get my knee taken care of.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice pack on the knee

What limited your ability to perform faster:

IT band and possibly breathing during the swim.
I've been fighting either allergies or a cold the last few days.

Event comments:

I really like this race because of the swim.

The results were a bit slow to be posted.

Nice race.  Great bike split...  Got me by a second overall!  Do you remember what color shirt that younger guy was wearing that you raced out of T2.

Nice race, you kicked some butt on that bike, the hills were showing me how slow I am.
