Age Group Rank = 8/11
Pre-race routine:

I picked up my packet early so I did not see the venue until race day. I planed to arrive early, but even my best made plans went arye andI arrived late. I lost my googles during transistion set up and spent any spare time that I might have had looking for them, but got the transistion area set up nicely.
Event warmup:

None, Zip, Zilch, Nadda!
Swim
  • 38h 35m
  • 1760 yards
  • 2h 11m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

I arrived on the beach about 45 seconds before the horne sounded for my wave so I did not get a chance to warm up at all. BIG Mistake (Mental Note: always, always, always, warm up before the swim)! I started out to fast and lost my breath quickly and I quickly transgressed into a modified breast stoke, then side stroke, then treading water and it took me well over 5 minutes to gain my composure. Once I got going again and got into a rythmn, things went fine, but I knew that I would never recover from the poor start so I decidedto relax and let it come to me.
What would you do differently?:

Lets see.... Hummm? Maybe... WARM UP!
Transition 1
  • 03m 58s
Comments:

I was disappointed at my swim and that carried over into T1. I could not find the pull on my wetsuit and then proceeded to go through the transistion at a much more relaxed pace then normal.
What would you do differently?:

Warm up before the swim. Not doing so puts me in a very bad mood.
Bike
  • 1h 24m 16s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 18.66 mile/hr
Comments:

I followed my worst swim ever with a respectable bike performance. I guess settling into a relaxed, no pressure attitude paid off as I felt pretty good through out.
What would you do differently?:

I think that warming up a little before the start of the swim might have helped out here a little.
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Came off of the bike very poorly. Was not focused and waited until I was stoped to dismount.
What would you do differently?:

Kick a leg over while still in motion on the dismount.
Run
  • 51h 34m
  • 6.2 miles
  • 8h 19m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice easy relaxed pace. Stopped very briefly to rehydrate when I probably should have just slowed a little. By this time I was just relaxing, joking around, and ttrying to encourage others.
Post race
Warm down:

Went pretty much straight from the finish to the mens room to relieve myself. Walked a little, drank a lot of GR and had a couple of pretty good quarter subs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Did I mention that I did not warm up before the start of the swim?

Event comments:

Nice course, nice race, and well organized.
