Swim
Comments: Missed projected time by 50 seconds. Beat last year's time by 1:02. SPL's were so much higher than my training spl's even when I go faster. I was in awe, wondering why I was feeling tired and why my form was faulty. I had high expectations for the swim. What would you do differently?: Relax. Learn to deal with negative, unexpected situations. Transition 1
Comments: Took way too long...my rack was the farthest out from the transition entrance. Could not get cycling shoes on properly. What would you do differently?: I have to get accostumed to the strapping system of these new Duegi cycling shoes. Practice more. Bike
Comments: Got a flat in the last few KM's. Rode it out with very little PSI's. Almost skidded out of control in one of the last turns after a short downhill. However, I don't feel the flat significantly affected my time. What would you do differently?: I would disregard the HRM in such a short race. The whole time I was looking obsessively at the monitor and bike computer, wondering all sorts of stuff. A big distraction. Transition 2
Comments: Both transitions amounted to 3:07. I had planned for 2:30. Last year's time was 2:49. What would you do differently?: Practice more. Hope rack is not so far away from transition entrance. Run
Comments: The run did go as planned, as far as projected time (beat it by 38 sec) and was 5 minutes faster than last year. It's funny how the thing that I was worried about the most (the run) was actually the only part of the race that worked out perfectly and even slightly better than expected. It was definitely a strange day for me. :) What would you do differently?: Nothing really. Post race
Warm down: Stretched, watched other racers finish. Got gatorade and food. What limited your ability to perform faster: Iron-distance training has made me slower for this race (or so I think), but fast enough for those longer races. I had some stomach issues at the beginning of the swim specifically and throughout the race. I also have to work on handling negative aspects. Event comments: This is a great race. I plan on doing it every year! This year it was meant as training for my Iron-distance race on May 15. I'm not happy with my results, but very glad I raced. It was definitely a learning experience. I wish it had been organized earlier in the season. Last updated: 2005-04-11 12:00 AM
