Pre-race routine:

Nothing special. At a Clif bar and an Ensure with two Endurolytes.
Run
  • 10m 31s
  • 1.33 miles
  • 07m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

No problems on this run. I wanted to do about an 8 minute pace and hit it pretty close.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1

Comments:

Uneventful T1.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 46m 29s
  • 15.12 miles
  • 19.52 mile/hr
Comments:

My Garmin came up with 20.0 mph on this ride, so I am sure the scoring includes either T1 or T2. Also, the course was supposed to be 14 miles, but I came up with 15 and the top of the scoring sheets says 17. So, I dunno. Anyway, my right calf started cramping up about 5 miles before the finish and I had to back off of the pace. It was a shame, 'cause I could have averaged 20.5 or even 21 mph if I had been able to keep it up. When the cramps kicked in, I was so bummed I really lost a lot of my enthusiasm. I have been down this road so many times and I am sick of dealing with this issue. I wish I knew why this keeps happening.
What would you do differently?:

Not have cramps?! I think it may have been that I just hammered it too hard and it was overexertion.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Went pretty much as planned except the calf cramps were getting worse at this point.
What would you do differently?:

Not get calf cramps.
Run
  • 29m 7s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Started with calf cramps and progressed to cramps in my right quads. This was a miserable run nursing these cramps. Had to stop and walk three times to get the cramps to subside enough to run again. Considering I walked three times, I guess the total time isn't too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Find a way to get rid of these debilitating cramps.
Post race
Warm down:

Talked with Jim & Vicki, Leonard Scriven, and Robert O'Bolye who completed his first event. I think it was a long day for him.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cramps!!!!!!

Event comments:

I wish there was enough room for the organizers to eliminate the running on the grass or at least cut the areas where you have to run on it. Other than that, it was a fun day and the organizers did a good job.
