You'll likely have more response if you post this in the Tri'ing for Weightloss forums on BT.

i'm no nutritionist, but i'd say it can easily be safe...if you have the weight to lose.  if you are reasonably fit, i'd say that doing this could be potentially dangerous.  if you plan to do it by ramping up your exercise as well, just make sure you don't do too much too soon.  otherwise, you'll risk injury and that will really cramp your weight loss ability.

if you are 300-400 pounds losing the weight will probably be the easy part, keeping it off will be the hard part.  i didn't bother looking to see if you had a picture, so don't take this last remark as an insult.

Judging by his avatar, I'm guessing he's not 300 lbs.

What's your current height, weight and body fat percentage?  As others have mentioned, there really isn't a sure-fire way of cutting weight, especially if you're already fit.

Let me just preface this by saying I'm no expert, but I've dropped about 20 lbs since January and about 40 lbs since my peak two years ago.  Here are some recommendations just from taking a peak at your logs:

1.  Stop lifting, you're putting on muscle that is adding weight.  If you're serious about cutting weight, you need to cut out the weight training.
2.  Increase your workout lengths gradually.  From your logs, it looks like you've clocked almost 10 hours / week for your peak last week, but more than 20% of that was from lifting weights.  Switch that over to S/B/R.
3.  Stay far, far away from diet pills, diet supplements, and diets in general.  Just eat healthy and weight will come off as you increase your workload.
4.  Stop using all caps!  It reads like you're shouting.

It's going to be tough, plus performance might go in to the toilet.

weight training is only going to add significant muscle if you're eating enough for it, once you get past the newbie stage you have to be in a caloric surplus to add anything significant.  However when dieting the full weight workout not only cuts in to S/B/R training, but recovery as well.  You can easily maintain muscle mass/strength by cutting weight volume by 2/3, as long as you keep the weight on the bar.  Do you want to simply lose weight or cut fat?  If weight at any cost, go ahead and stop lifting, if you just want to lose fat, you should keep lifting to maintain the muscle you've got.

a few years ago i read this book called the schwarzbein principal.  the essential premise is to not eat anything that you couldn't theoretically hunt, gather, pick, grow, etc.  it also advises staying away from anymore than a minimum amount of sugar and processed carbs.  it is NOT a diet, but more of a food way of life.  the book was interesting if you are a science geek because it went into major detail about the science behind the premise.  i had always been physically active, but my weight had always lingered around the 130 mark.  in 2-3 months I was at 113.  it  was not difficult at all.  you would be amazed at how well you can still eat eating only things that are naturally occuring.  instead of mcdonalds fries we make "chips" in our oven,  i make our salad dressings, etc.

she has a website....http://www.schwarzbeinprinciple.com/pgs/home.html

a quick glance shows that she's got other products for sale...don't know anything about them.  i just read the book and followed the directions more or less.  i DO highly recommend the book.

it'd be harsh.  you're looking at a pound lost every three days!  It may be possibly but it won't be healthy.  Shoot for 1 (2 at the most) pound a week.  Do the math on cals in and out.  You're talking about something like a 1100+ cal deficit (fat loss) per day.

x2... the thread title "cut weight in a smart way" doesn't jive with "lose 15 pounds in 47 days."  I've always heard that a pound a week is healthy, and sustainable.

that's what I did since about the middle of January, and by the end of it the fatigue was pretty intense, I am lighter though, so percentage-wise a 215 lb guy could maybe do 1.5 lb a week, but it wasn't easy.  I could only imagine what 2+ per week would do to performance, plus you might get a nasty rebound.

I decided to focus more on Calorie intake vs Burned. So right now I'm set at about 2,110 daily at which will help me lose about 2-3 pounds a week. Just got a hold of a perfect Calorie counter and just started using it yesterday. Thanks for all the information.
