Subject: Rocky Mtn NP hike question
Looking into visiting RMNP next month and I want to try to hook 2 hikes I've done before together to make a big loop rather than two out and back trips. I want to go up Flat Top to Tyndall Glacier and Hallet Peak. I then want to hook up from behind Andrew's Glacier/Tarn and descend following Andrew's Creek. Is there a trail running along the Continental Divide or will I need to use the North Inlet Pack Trail and cut east roughly following Adams tunnel to get behind Andrew's? Is there a trail of sorts along the purple line? Or should I take the red route?

Just had a quick look at the park website and I'm guessing there isn't any sort of formal trail along the divide.  I would stop by the backcountry office behind the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center when you enter the park and ask them what they think.  Just from the map it looks like it might be an issue descending from the divide down to Andrews Glacier, looks fairly cirque-like and I have no idea what the glacier is like but probably good idea to have an ice-axe and know how to self arrest if that's the only way down.

There is a way to do it. I talked to a guy who came over from the back side of Andrews when we were there last. He didn't have any climbing gear with him, although it might be necessary this year due to all the snow they had. He just said he came from the back side along the Divide and I didn't think to have him show me on my map at the time. We watched him coming down as we were going up and he did a lot of rock scrambling. I was hoping that maybe a BTer had done the climb and could tell me exactly how. I will get with the staff at RMNP if needed. They have an awesome group of Rangers at RMNP ( they are like that in all our NP system!) and they should be able to tell me if I'm biting off more than I can chew!!
