I'm brand-new here, but I'll be at Hawk Island, too!  I plan on checking out the temp on thursday, I'll let everyone know how it feels!  I rode my bike through there today and there seemed to be quite a few swimmers, so I guess it can't be TOO bad!

Around 10 of us swam there Sunday.  It wasn't bad at all, maybe 65 degrees.  The weather this week should help too.  See you Sunday.

Welcome to BT!  Feel free to meet up with us at the RACING GREYHOUNDS team (a couple of us are on the team) tent Sunday morning!

We did the entire course on Sunday as a practice.  The water is brisk at first, but you get used to it pretty quick.  So if we have some warm weather the water will be perfect (for this time of year anyway).

I look forward to meeting you!

I was out there today with a fellow greyhound.  She was swimming without a wetsuit and survived so it couldn't be that bad.  I, of course, am a wimp and wore a full wetsuit but forgot my goggles and swim cap.  We did most of the bike course (I turned to quickly so a little short).  The run course is my favorite, some shade, some sun, lots of scenery.  I just love it out there.    I look forward to meeting you next week.  Most of us will be at the greyhounds tent, that seems to be the meeting spot for the day.

Does anyone know when packet pickup is on Saturday?  The only two emails that I received from them were about volunteers.

I'll be there again this year.  Last year's race was my first tri ever and it was so great.  The whole event was really well organized I thought.

Looking forward to Sunday!

I'm sure everyone has different form when it comes to this, but what works for me is to basically peel it off so that it ends up inside out.  I pull it off my shoulders then grabbing the shoulder part I pull it down my legs being careful for it to not bunch it  up.  I then sit down and grabbing ahold of the suit at the top of my leg I keep peeling it down till it comes off over my foot.  End result is that its completely inside out.  I find that if I try to actually push it down instead of peeling it, then it gets bunched up and stuck on my lower legs or feet.

Good luck to you!

First, I lube up my lower calves and ankles with body glide.

When its time to take it off, I unzip and pull it down to my waist while exiting the water and running to the T-area.  When I get to my rack, I grab it at the waist and pull it down to the ground.  That  takes it down to just above my knees.  Then I grab it at the fold above my knees and go straight to the ground again.  Then I step the right foot on top of the "pile" and pull out my left foot, then switch and pull out my right foot.

Also, don't take your cap and goggles off until you already have the top of your wetsuit down.  That's save a little free hand space.    You may want to lift the goggles to your forehead though, if they are foggy.

When I race, I'm racing myself...everyone else is too fast anyway.  First goal is to finish, second goal is to finish faster than last time.  This is my second triathlon but I've done some training triathlons the last couple of weeks.  I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks for the help!   Mine should actually be easier than most to take off because it is only a knee and elbow length wetsuit.

If you didn't know all ready there not allowing dogs around Hawk Island any longer as it sounds like they recently added a dog park somewhere nearby.   Just thought you might want to know before bringing your girls.  After reading some of the threads last year it sounded dog friendly as I had considered bringing one of my pups this year

The dog park is actually attached to Hawk Island Park at the northeast corner.  You are allowed to bring your dog to Hawk Island Park and then walk it on a 6' leash to the dog park.  Of course, you can't see any of the race from there.
