Pre-race routine:

Woke up about 4:45, ate a couple of bowls of cereal. Left for the short drive to the course. Very nice to have the event so close to my home! I learned my lesson and got to the transition area early to be able to get a better spot in transition. I got a good spot, set up my transition and had enough time to try and get a warm up in.
Event warmup:

did some light jogging at first. Then got into my wetsuit and swam a little.
Swim
  • 26m 3s
  • 1320 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt pretty good about this swim. Was reminded again that this is a long swim for me! But felt like I was able to site well, stay out of traffic and get a decent rhythm going.
What would you do differently?:

Need to continue training to build up endurance and speed.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

Ok transition. Got out of suit ok, though this is never a work of art for me. Got into shoes and helmet, remembered my sunglasses this time, so that is an improvement for me!
Bike
  • 49m 26s
  • 16 miles
  • 19.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Took a couple of miles to get comfortable. I ride this loop regularly since its in my backyard. Felt pretty good knowing where to push and where to recover. On the one hand, felt like I could have gone harder, but given how low my energy was on the run, I guess its good that I didn't go any harder.

I am starting to see the need for aerobars. Hard to hold aero position on a road bike with arms that are tired from the swim.
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

another decent transition for me. Took a couple of extra seconds to get some water and a goo to try and gather myself for the run.
Run
  • 43m 47s
  • 5 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt very tired on the run. Never got into a great rhythm. Need to do more bricks during training and run more. With more training I can improve this leg. Course was mostly nicely shaded, though there was about a 1/2 mile around mile 4 that was in the sun. By that time, it was starting to get hot. There were water stations every mile, which helped.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and stretched. Got a big hug from my daughter!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall, I was happy with my time. Being somewhat new to tri's its hard to peg target times for me. I had hoped to be in the 2:10-2:15 range, so finishing at 2:03 was nice. Now I can target a sub 2 hours for next year.

More bricks should help the bike/run transition.

Event comments:

This is a fun race. I really enjoy the positive overall attitude of the triathlon events. This event seemed to be very well organized. There were plenty of aid stations, and information given out. I would encourage all to pick up their packet the day before to avoid the longish line for day off pickup.
