Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:45 and drove to Boulder. Much better parking plan than last year as I drove east of the race course on 157N. L on Diagonal Hwy, L on 28th, and then parked on some road west of 28th right next to a Starbucks. Walked over and picked up my packet, then back to the car, then to Starbucks for a latte. Ran about 5 minutes easily to warm up and then made it to my starting wave with about 3 minutes to spare. Gotta remember next year that it's hard to get through the masses up to my wave so I need to allow ten minutes to get up there.
Event warmup:

Easy 1/2 mile in about 5 minutes. Legs felt OK running easily so I thought maybe I'd be able to run well.

Comments:

I knew in the first 15 steps that I was in trouble. I had the double whammy going. My legs felt super heavy from the last couple days of bike workouts and the soreness from my downhill run a few days ago came right back as soon as I started running, especially in my calves. My legs ached badly the whole race like what happens at about mile 10 in my Wash Park run.

I also dressed poorly. It was about 55F and cloudy. I wore the long sleeve shirt I usually wear here in that temp. But unlike here, it was super humid so by the end that shirt was soaked in sweat and felt like it weighed about three pounds. I had lots of shirt options with me at the car and should have gone with a super thin tanktop with that long sleeve tied around my waist to put on after the race.

My miles splits were:
1- 6:37
2- 7:08
3- 7:22
4- 7:25
5- 7:23
6- 7:34

5k- 21:54 (slower than my last tri 5k)
10k-45:02 (About 30 seconds faster than last year)
What would you do differently?:

I need to get a good 10K under my belt. Next year, I'm going to show up fresh. I love this race. Seeing 55,000+ runners is just amazing and being perfectly seeded based on pace is aweseome.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat at the finish for a few minutes then went up to the bleachers to meet Dave and Meg. Then I walked about 30 minutes back to the car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Sore and tired legs.

Event comments:

It's the BolderBoulder. Surely this is the best 10k race in the country. I don't see how one could be better.

Very nice effort! It is hard to do on tired legs but when your rested up all the hard work will pay off and you'll be much faster.

Nice job Steve!  You really hit that first mile...hard not to!  I agree with the congested start...I've missed my wave before trying to navigate through all the runners.  Great race!

Not too shabby! Faster than last year and it was a train through race. That rocks! You keep getting faster and this race might not have proved how fast you are right now, but it did prove how fit you are.
