I am pretty sure mountain bikes are hard to find.... You live in the mountains, find one already...

HEy all.

Rode with Ken (kenaxford) on Saturday.  things ae lookin' good.  Almost completely sold out.

Bike course is good to go.  There was a big horse group on Saturday.  The lower single track section after the descent is a bit torn up.  Other than that, fun and fast.  Not as much gravel on the back ascent coming out of the fire area.

Water temp was a balmy 48 degrees at the transition area.  Should warm in the next 2 weeks.  Run is good to go.  Rumor has it that the ater logs are gone from the step section.  I didn't make it back there.  that could make that descent a bit interesting.

C ya out there.  No race for me with this asthma thing.  Oh,  and a super cool 4 month old, but I'll be there volunteering.

Ocky and I decided we need to test the waters before the ride on Saturday too.  I'm sure we will be miserable all week before the race thinking about it, but gotta try out the new wetsuit.

There is a group pre-ride on saturday at 9am for anyone who wants to check out the course.  this is a coruse that will pay of if you know what to expect.

Ocky and I decided to suffer in teh water a little before the ride as well:  misery loves company !!!

Hey all.  How's it?

As of Friday night there were about 20 spots left and the sprint is full.

Course was lookin good as of Saturday.  The bike is still pretty packed from the recent rain. I imagine with the warm up, it might get a bit looser on Gashouse, but otherwise good to go.

Water temp was right around 58 deg or so.  Face got cold, and then numb pretty quick, and then it was good to go.  I'd say a little colder than last year, but not bad.

Hope to be there by Friday afternoon or so.  Will be camping at the far west campsite.

C ya there.

Good seeing ya out there OCKY!

I am excited and nervous as this is my first race in two years (since 5430 1/2 in 8/07) and I am still dealing with flare ups in my back and foot

That bike finish is gonna make for an interesting run!

I hope to see some of you guys on Saturday!

When I'm not getting ready for the race, (or racing) I'll be posted up under the Fast-tri Sports tent, so come introduce yoruself.  I'd love to meet some of the local BT'ers.

Ok I've signed up for this, but if anyone can advise on running trail conditions to help me out with my shoe choice I'd apreciate it. Can I wear racing flats or should I go with the trail shoes for this one???

you could go either way on this one.  the first 10-15 minutes (depending on your speed) will be pretty steep up then down.  After that, it's relatively flat.  The steep sections can be loose, but I would think you would make up that time on the flatter sections with racing flats.

Like Ken said, you could go either way.

Flats are nice cuz they are light.  The upside to trail or regular run shoes is that they have extra support and padding.  Flats are as simple as they come.  There really aren't too many rocky or rooty sections, but there are afew.  I kinda prefer trail or regular shoes for this, just because a hard rock in the instep is not my idea of a good time.  Then again, this is Xterra...and of course there's no wining in Xterra.   There's plenty of smooth fire road to justify the flats.

In the end, it's what you are confortable with.  There's also the mantra of race how you train.

Good luck and c ya there.

see you guys tomorrow, unfortunately ( at the mercy of Robert the race director) I am only going to do the trail run now as I broke my hand 2 days ago and can't swim or ride for a month. But I can cheer some BT'ers on and still run, and give a little one handed clean up afterwards. I heard the run wasn't too technical, so here's hoping I don't fall.
Cheers! Fil
