Swim
Comments: Was that REALLY 440 yards!?! Man that training has paid off if it was:-) Friends wetsuit, I have to get one of those. What a feeling floating on the water and it was the Quickjohn model. Sun was just over the horizon and made breathing to the left impossible unless retnia burn was desired. Mass start and started towards the back, next time I'm up front! Had fun drafting and navigating other swimmers, passed a lot of people. Had little trouble with directionality during the swim as shore line was very close. What would you do differently?: Start up front. Transition 1
Comments: Man I had time for takeout! Only 13 were slower than I was. First time with a wetsuit, had it down to the waist by the time I reached the rack. Took my time to get things on. Transistion area was very sanding with lots of leaves. Made sure feet were rinsed before putting on socks and running shoes. What would you do differently?: Need to practice some more swim-T1 this month. Bike
Comments: #2 fat-tire bike. Need to get a tri bike and fly! What would you do differently?: Draft, HA! Wear the camelback, PITA getting water bottle in and out Transition 2
Comments: Need to figure out racking the bike thing when legs are tired! Run
Comments: Was that really a 5k!?! Had doubts about the run course (hardpack Sand/dirt road) but once on it, it felt great. Had the calf cramp monster rear its ugly head, again. Stopped twice to stretch. Hookup up with a Novice who is a marathon runner and started talking, took my mind off the legs and after 5 minutes was ready to roll. Slight stitch at 15 min mark, worked it out and finished hard. Had plenty of energy left. What would you do differently?: Need to figure out the calf cramp issue... Post race
Warm down: Jog and walked for 5 minutes, water, had some oranges What limited your ability to perform faster: Starting swim in the back, Fat-tire! Transistions. Event comments: Transistion area had a large tree branch that came within 4' of the ground, WHY? Swim exit was terrible (mucky). Wish ride was longer. Run on the hardpack road was nice. Sent feedback to organizers and already received a nice thank you and invitation to see the improvements at the next race. Last updated: 2005-04-18 12:00 AM

Fell out of bed at 4:20 am, coffee is no help that early! Choked down the morning ritual bowl of cereal and a banana. Drove with friend to event (1 hour), wasn't conscious during the ride.
Finally dawn! Ran around some, stretched some, relaxed. Put on the borrowed QR Quickjohn wetsuit 15 minutes before start and did 5 minutes of warmup swim.
