Sunny
Total Time = 52m 6s
Overall Rank = 3/11
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Pre-race routine:

banana and a cup of milk. MacDonald sausage egg sandwich on the way.
Event warmup:

almost none. swing around my arm to make sure my right shoulder is movable, and my left leg is okay runnable.
Swim
  • 05m 54s
  • 250 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

It become a belle river water drinking fest after the first 5 meter of swim. The wave is so choppy that I breath in water instead of air every time I pop my head up. It push me around a lot. I almost choke to death before the turning point. I bet that the guide at the turning point is thinking rather come out to rescue me or let me keep going. I give up swimming to save my life and do walk/swim instead. I am surprise I get out of the water alive, only a little dizzy. I get out of the water 2nd last.
What would you do differently?:

Pratice in belle isle (with real wave) instead of spring mill pond.
Walk further out to swim.
walk faster.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 is a running race. Indeed T1 is longer than the swim course I believe. It is kind of confusing but the pre-swim instruction is helpful, and volunteer did a great job guiding after the sensor line. Wearing wet shoes slow me down in the water, but I am able to pass several people in T1.

That said, I blow the change of cloth part. I am feeling dizzy and almost fall on the ground. The heel remover somewhat work. My double-layer shirt is a pain to put on. My wife said that I am in slow motion in T1.
What would you do differently?:

SINGLE LAYER SHIRT!!!

put on cloths, helmet and shoes faster.
Bike
  • 31m 39s
  • 15 kms
  • 28.44 km/hr
Comments:

I only use 3 gears.

I almost got hit by a truck on the way back, but thats due to my stupidly and lack of common sense of not using the brake.

Another thing I don't like is the end of the course where we have to cross a train track on top of the hill. I can't see the end line until I cross the hill/train track so I don't know when to dismount. I dismount my shoes before the train track and that cost me some time.
What would you do differently?:

don't do the flying dismount! (or at least practice it before doing it)
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

first error... take off the shoes too early.

I think I did the most funny dismount... I take off the shoes, while still rolling on the bike, with both my feet apart from the padal... then hit the brake hard and let myself slide onto the top tube!!

That was painful. If anyone video record it please give me a copy and let my wife laugh about it.

Again, I am in slow motion changing and let the girl behind me pass me in T2.
What would you do differently?:

either practice flying dismount or dont it!

take off helmet faster.
Run
  • 13m 15s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 05m 18s  min/km
Comments:

Don't know if its du folks but I saw someone running on the path instead of the street, which is longer distance because of the twisty road.
What would you do differently?:

I think I did pretty good at the run. The brick work is worth. I would spin faster at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

walk around with wife happily

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1. swim! out door swim! wavy swim!

2. slow motion transition (although I though I am fast)

Event comments:

For the size of the event, I give it a thumb up.
