There have always been top climbers that sit and top climbers that stand. For example.. Contador stands a lot, lance also would stand a lot. Jan Ullrich and Michael Rasmussen both sat a lot. I stand a lot, but if it's a long climb.. I'll be sitting for a good portion of the climb. I've always heard/read that standing or sitting depends on your weight...I may have it backwards but lighter riders it is advantage to stand and heavier riders to sit. Reality until your power/weight ratio improves with the same gearing on your bike hills will be the same difficulty for someone. I think many folks don't give due consideration to gearing on their bike. Proper gearing allows folks to ride hills with same/similar power output by changing gears. |
