I don't think there is a right or wrong way to climb.. There have always been top climbers that sit and top climbers that stand.

For example.. Contador stands a lot, lance also would stand a lot.

Jan Ullrich and Michael Rasmussen both sat a lot.

I stand a lot, but if it's a long climb.. I'll be sitting for a good portion of the climb.

What do you do if you have no hills where you live? (besides move Smile)

I live in a flat area and most of the races I sign up for are in  the Austin area which is about 4.5 hours away.

I've always heard/read that standing or sitting depends on your weight...I may have it backwards but lighter riders it is advantage to stand and heavier riders to sit.

Reality until your power/weight ratio improves with the same gearing on your bike hills will be the same difficulty for someone. I think many folks don't give due consideration to gearing on their bike. Proper gearing allows folks to ride hills with same/similar power output by changing gears.

By riding lots.

Because any other way is not going to help you climb any better for more than 10 seconds or so .......

anerobic systems work for 30 seconds before aerobic ones need to take over... Tongue out  Wink
