Overall Rank = 117/283
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 18/24
Pre-race routine:

Got up and stretched, I stayed with my parents, so I double checked everything. The day before my father and I went out and drove the bike and run course.
Event warmup:

Ate a bagel and drank some Gatorade. Got out to the event early an got set-up. My parents and family were at the race, so I tried to not get to nervous!
Swim
  • 10m 1s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was one of the most congested swims I have ever done. It started onthe beach and everyone ran into the water. It seemed like it bottlenecked early. Alot of people should have been more to the back, I noticed that alot of people stopped to sight the buoy. the first leg was just tough to find a line to swim, I got sucked into the inside near the buoy, which I did not want to be. Finally I had to just lower my head and drive through everything. Second buoy on was a good swim.
What would you do differently?:

start more outside and find a line to swim that first leg easier.
Transition 1
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

This was by far my best transition ever. I ran up the mats, jumped in the wade pool to clean feet and grabbed my stuff and was gone.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, hope to do the same.
Bike
  • 46m 34s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.33 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike route was down and back, but it had me ridinghard. Some places i hit 40 mph, others I was doing 8 mph. Since it was down and back, it was nice to know what was coming up. I really thought I was doing alot worse than I did on the bike and thought i blew my time goal.
What would you do differently?:

more saddle time
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Another great transition for, something I had been going over in my head for awhile. I was able to get out of my shoes and pedal for the last 100 yards or so, which really felt good.
What would you do differently?:

nada
Run
  • 27m 4s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was something I have been working on, wanting to get faster. I kept looking for the 1 mile marker I saw the day before and nefore I knew it, I was at the turn around point, which was a big boost. i knew I still had time to make my goal if I kept it up. Coming backinto the park, I was not aware of the additional 1/4 mile around the park to get to the finish line!
What would you do differently?:

keep pushing
Post race
Warm down:

banannas, Gatorade, coke, and family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

frustration on the swim portion

Event comments:

Really enjoyed this race, wanted to do it last year, but the hurricanes cancelled it. i will be back next year to this race or maybe the HIM the have the day before.

Good grief, you really are getting fast.  I'm glad I'll probably never have to race against you!  Congratulations on an awesome race, James!
