As a first timer - what's the best St. Louis TRI event to register for?

There are quite a few in STL that are good for beginners.
Rec Plex/St. Peters: June and October
Alligator Creek/O'fallon, MO: August
Kirkwood Tri: not sure when this is
South County YMCA Tri: July

These are all pool swims, Lake St. Louis (which is probably full) has a lot of newbies doing the sprint.

Thanks for the info!  I'll definitely target a pool swim bc that is by far my weak point right now.

I started a half marathon training routine a few weeks back (L&C in Sept) and currently running 20-25 miles/week.  I'll usually get in a bike ride once or twice a week, anywhere from 15-20 mile rides.   I'm not starting from complete scratch on the swimming but I'm for sure a novice in conditioning and technique.

With the kirkwood and a few other beginner TRIs in July, is a month or so enough time to prepare for the swim portion???

yeah, the OP probably isn't looking for a HIM as a first event.

My vote would have been for Tour de Kirkwood.  Great venue for a first-timer.  Very comfortable atmosphere.  It may even be worth your while to check it out as an observer, or better yet, volunteer.

Good luck with your first tri season.  Race reports are your friend!!

Just signed up for the Hillsboro Tri on July 4.  It's about an hour and a half outside St. Louis.  It's an OWS.  It will be my first one.
