I also have a lot of cuts from my hands to my toes. I'm sure glad I didn't see that gator prior to the swim. Allin all I had a great time.

The race was somewhat disappointing this year.  I like the distance, I felt I had a good race, and I enjoyed chattin' it up with the folks in our group!  Besides the minor injuries from the swim, it sounds like everyone went through a little HTFU time and came out on top!  Congrats to everyone for great efforts on a less than perfect day of racing!

Gators, oyster beds, and sunkin' boats, OH MY!  Maybe Greg needs to put that on next year's race shirt ~ Corpus Christi doesn't have the toughest swim in Texas... Clear Lake does!

I know there will be all sorts of stuff in FL in November, but I just keep telling myself that I am just going for a swim (and ignoring the fact that creatures actually live in the water!).

I was swimming off the beach at Cocoa Beach last month, just behind the breakers, and saw something huge about 10 yards directly in front of me as I sighted.  Needless to say, my perfect sense of self-preservation kicked in, I did a neat 90 degree right turn towards the beach without a second thought.  Still mentally processing what I'd seen:  big, dark, slick, big, not a turtle, no fin (yea!)...MANATEE!

Scared me enough as it was, not sure which bodily functions I would've lost control of had I not sighted when I did, because I would've run right up on his back.  Although not harmful in the least, he was still just plain wrong for being where he was when I was trying to get in a swim...:-)

Thanks Justin - I really needed a laugh this morning!

Saw my pics - nothing I need to shell out money for.  I am bummed though, I actually made an effort to come out of the water smiling rather than my standard gaping open mouth shot and they missed it!

And I thought I was the one who had patented the dying-carp-on-the-beach pose for all of my swim exit pictures!  I actually had plenty of air as I passed through the crowd gauntlet to T1 to respond to people by name--totally different than in swims past...and of course, the photographers missed that too...

I tried that at TriGirl too, after my 1st 2 race pics out of the water were horrific.  Somehow, they still got an awful pic.  Grrrr...
