Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4am. Drove to pick up Elissa and headed on down to Callaway Gardens. (2 hours from home). Stopped at McD's for an egg mcmuffin with no meat.
Event warmup:

Walking & stretching
Swim
  • 10m 44s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 27s / 100 yards
Comments:

Great swim considering I haven't been swimming in 3 months.
What would you do differently?:

Train MORE!
Transition 1
  • 04m 16s
Comments:

Rode the bike without socks.
What would you do differently?:

Have a bucket to dip feet in to get the dirt and sand off.
Bike
  • 26m 32s
  • 9 miles
  • 20.35 mile/hr
Comments:

Beautiful fast course. I felt great on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder.
Transition 2
  • 03m 38s
Comments:

Took time to wash the sand off the feet before going into the running shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Need to learn to run without socks to save a little time here. Have a stool to sit down on. I don't have the balance to put on the shoes standing up.
Run
  • 25m 13s
  • 2 miles
  • 12m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Here is where I lost all my momentum. I started out running, but quickly went back to a fast walk. I ran maybe 1/8 of the course and walked the rest.

I was fun to hear a runner swear when I went walking past them. LOL
What would you do differently?:

Work harder on improving my ability to run. If I can do a 12.6 mile with it primarily be walking just think, I could break the 10 mark if I ran the whole way.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of room to walk around. Plenty of fruit, granola bars and cookies for food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

ME!

Event comments:

Need to have the volunteers in matching shirts so that they are easy to find. Not enough bike racks and people really spread out making it hard to find a spot for your bike and I was there early. Only a race number for your shirt. No marking for the swim, no number on the bike. Too many non-participants in the transition area. Need a bit better control there.
