Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5. At a bowl of Banana Nut Bran with 2% milk and had a banana. Loaded the gear, woke up the family and hit the road.

Basic stretches. Swam 50 yrds or so.

Comfortable for the first 100 yrds or so, then realized I wasn't even close to the bouy and was getting exhausted. Panic set in. Started on the backstroke.

Train, Train, Train.

I need a lot more open water training.

Started strong, but the first downhill started hurting my knee, so I tended to walk or lightly job all of the other downhills.

Course: Cross country course. Up and down rutted out and root laden trails before hitting the open field. The downs through the woods reeked havoc on my left knee. Had to walk down several hills, but did OK on the flats.
