yes, you can ride 285 but some stretches might be a little scary.  Not much of a shoulder on some parts and cars move pretty fast on 285.  you could also get to Breck from Denver on 40 and then I70 frontage road to Loveland Pass...then over the pass.  Have your scary stretches here to though.  Anyway, it sounds like a great trip!  Do you have someone sagging for you?

That is what I was thinking about 285, but we would be going into the hills at an early morning week day time so hopefully traffic would not be crazy.  I was also contemplating a reverse trip and heading north up through RMNP and then up to Steamboat and into Wyoming that way.  We could get a SAG ride into Denver Metro from the Springs or just take the back roads (Santa Fe runs down to Castle Rock at a minimum right?) back into Denver Metro area.

We could cheat and get a ride up to the Dillon area and just start there also

Nope this will be a self support type trip.  I have family in Colorado and the BT community spreads all over this great country so if trouble happens, I will just flash my BT Badge

There is actually a pretty good route Springs to Denver on 83 (east of I25).  I would recommend that.  Not totally bike froiendly but I've riden it before and really is a pretty nice ride.  I'm not sure about riding on Santa Fe...too many trucks!

For the early parts of your ride you could check out the triple bypass route from outside boulder/denver to Vail.  To get north from the springs you can take 83 or check out the Elephant rock route for Springs to castle rock I am not familiar with north of Castle Rock but you could proabably checkout the state highway route from there to Chatfield Res and then take the path from there up north at least to 70.  SantaFe trail in the Springs is gravel from Palmer Park through a good part of the Springs.

Have fun and good luck on your ride.

hey bill

My wife susan got me on this . i have done some cycle touring . first question is are you going to be supported or self contained?

there er great bike paths in denver so you can pass through denver with very little street travel .

from denver there are two long distance options to get into the mountains 285 corridor and I 70 corridor .

there would be several ways to get through the mountains to grand junction or Cortez . the fun part is getting from there to Utah say Moab or Monticello .

there are going to be some long dry section and during the summer HOT AS HELL.

then come the long dry sections through Utah and or Arizona .

if you want call and we can look at Google maps together . 303-670-9294
