Subject: Omaha Marathon

Has anybody run the Omaha Marathon or the 1/2?  I was thinking about running it this year, was wondering if anybody had done it and what they thought about it.  Thanks.

I did it last year. It's tough but it's fun. The hard part is when you get way north up by Ponca hills. I think that's where the tough part was anyway. It's at about mile 18-20 before you head back toward downtown. One of the tougher marathons I've done. Of course I've only done five, including Chicago twice, so take that with a grain of salt. People are oft surprised when I tell them how hilly Omaha is.

I have done it a few times. That hill in Kansas leading up to the dam is a good example. There are 4 hills in the Omaha that are similar grade, just not as long. They range from maybe .25 miles to .75 miles in length. It is the hardest of the one's I've done course wise. Oh, and there is little to no crows support in many areas. I don't recommend it, but that is just me.

I've only run one (Omaha), but I say x2 to the above. Kansas City marathon is just a few weeks later and maybe just as challenging, but probably way more crowd support.

Yeah, you could just set up a water station in front of your house and go run 26.2 while stopping by the water station and that wouldn't be much worse than Omaha. The shirts have even been ugly the last couple of years. Last year was this purple thing, not a good looking shirt. We have a great running store here that I wish would put on the Marathon. It would be much better. At least they could change the location to a nicer spot. I think the Papillion people are doing a nice job with their races, maybe they could take it over.

Look at Des Moines.  We are thinking about it, and its is a little later in the season, but that just works fine for my plan.  I've heard it is flat.
