Subject: how often do you replace
your bottom bracket,??    I'm ready to put a new chain on again,, and I got thinking I've never replaced my bottom bracket on this bike which has 5-6,000 miles on it..

are there signs that the BB is going??

It will depend on the type of BB.  I have had BB's last 10,000 miles and it was only replaced because I switched spline types.  That was an Ultegra Octalink.  I now have a FSA Platnum Pro ISIS (no need for me to go to two piece cranks yet) on my road bike and that has about 3,000 on it.  Just make sure to do simple maintenance to your bike and most quality items should last a long time.

I have a trek pilot with just over 10,000 miles. It has all the original drive except chain and cassette. The bottom bracket is still in great shape. I never even greased it.
