Overall Rank = 195/214
Age Group = Clyde
Age Group Rank = 8/9
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 0430, got 2 of the 3 S's, and had some cereal and a granola bar. Then drove to the race.
Event warmup:

Set up my area, got back in the car and listened to music for a bit. No real warmup as my swim start wasn't until an hour after the actual start.
Swim
  • 07m 13s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

Giant cluster-F. I saw a few head on crashes my passers before I got in the water. I passed a few people right off, then got behind someone that wouldn't stop at the wall. I would have passed in the middle, but I knew there was a young kid only a few people in front of me, and I didn't want to hit him. So I did some side stroke, some tarzan drill, walked a little, and did some freestyle in there too. I could have likely gone at least a minute faster if I could have passed the person.
What would you do differently?:

Just swim over the slow poke.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

Kind of a hike to get to transition. But once there, I was in and out rather quickly I think.
What would you do differently?:

Not be so fat so I could run quicker.
Bike
  • 36m 56s
  • 9 miles
  • 14.62 mile/hr
Comments:

Bing such short loops, the hills were repeated very quickly. So this was way more hilly than I'd ever trained on. I got passed a lot, but with it being a 3 loop course, I was expecting that. Only 1 person on a MTN bike passed me, but he and I passed each other at least 1 time per loop.
What would you do differently?:

Not ride a crap Target MTN bike, go clipless, ride more.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

No time listed. But since I bike in my running shoes, this was a really fast time for me, I think.
What would you do differently?:

Not be so fat so I can run faster.
Run
  • 35m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 11m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

The first hill kind of sucked, but it was all downhill and flat after that. Started getting a blister, but it wasn't too bad. Unfortunately I had a way too slow pace, and never could get out of it. Walked 2 times, for about 15 seconds each time, and felt much better after that. Had enough left to pass a few people on the final quarter mile to the finish, which felt really good.
What would you do differently?:

Not be so fat so I can run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a Coke and put ice in my shirt. Let me tell you, ice cubes in your belly button reall helps you feel cooler. Well, not cool like the Fonz, but cool temperatute wise. Walked over to the last stretch with 2 other dudes to wait for another friend to finish. Got an ok jog back towards the finish while he finished.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being fat.

Event comments:

As my first race, I can't really compare it to anything. It seemed to be run well though. I'd definately do this race again next year.

Congrats on the race.  Now you have your first one under your belt.  Are you more excited now that the first is behind you?  When you heading to your LBS???  Tongue out

Um, I'm thinking Monday.  I should likely tell my wife first though.

It's hard to say if I'm more excited, but I think I'm more looking forward to it.  Before the first, I was still not quite sure what to expect, and now that I have an idea, I can just have fun with it.

You really did awesome!! Congrats. And once your wife sees you tearing it up out there on a real bike, she'll come to accept the cost. And all the shiny jewellery you've bought her in the past will help dazzle away her objections too.

Can't wait to see a picture!

You started a few places behind me, I was bib 287.  Hope I didn't hold you up in the pool!  It was my first tri also, had a lot of fun.

No, Jeff, you didn't hold me up.  It was a woman a few spots ahead of me in the pool that got me.

Congratulations, SUPER TRIATHLETE!

You did awesome! And you're not fat you silly goose. You're right about the swim though--next time just drown the mofos in your way. It's how triathlon goes

Phil, you can guess away.

Yanti, I just didn't want my first tri to include drowning an old woman, and clubbing a 13yo to death.  2nd one, that's cool.  But on the first, that sets me up to always have to do that.  Then I'd need to seek people out and it would cut into my race time.

Thanks Rudy.  Next race is longer, but I got a new bike, so I'm hoping that will help even out my times.  Going from a MTN bike to a road bike should help a bit, as well as going clipless instead of old school w/o even cages.
