Subject: Training in Oshkosh area?
So like I mentioned in the other thread, I will be vacationing in Oshkosh for the fly-in.
In order to keep up training, I need some suggestions. I can run at the camprgrounds, no problem. For biking, I'd like a little more open area. I have a map for the bike route of the oshkosh tri, So I could do that if needed.
But what I'd really like to know if there are any known routes around the airport area for biking, and if there are any public beaches/pools in the area where I could swim?

Thanks,
John

I'm not sure when your fly-in is, or what it is
If you still need routes to train on, let me know. I live in Oshkosh and can tell you all about where to swim, run routes, and bike routes. At least from what I'm training on.

Seriously? You live and Oshkosh and don't know what Airventure is?? the biggest, baddest, weeklong airshow at end of July?

Anways, Yes, I would appreciate some bike routes and swim areas, esp. near the airport.

Hi there! I live just North of Oshkosh but my MIL lives there and my husband is from there so I know some stuff. You can check this out for swimming: http://www.ci.oshkosh.wi.us/Parks/PDF/Pollock_Info.pdf (never swam laps but its great for kiddos); there's also two Y's in Osh. One downtown, one just off route 21 (brand new one).
Are you staying on the grounds of the Eaa? Or a hotel outside of the festivities? Osh tri route is a bit out of the way I would think for you being that its really in Winneconne.
First time to the Eaa? Its such a blast!

Nope. This will be my 21st consecutive year! I'll be staying at the Camp Scholler campgrounds.

Thanks for the leads, I'll check them out.

I go to school in Oshkosh I bike righ on 45 it is beautiful. Right next to the lake and not sure how long you plan to go but you can get there from airport in about 2-3miles and just go left/south/toward FDL via 45. The pavement there is smooth the bike lane is big and the speedlimit for cars is 45. plus this is the road that holds the race around the lake

I moved here from Germany and have only lived in Oshkosh for couple years. I know what EAA is (just didn't make the connection), but the only way that I know WHEN it is, is when they block of the overpass and I have to go around ha ha ha

Try this website:http://www.oshkoshcyclingclub.com/routes.html

It will give you some good routes and even group rides to join.

Have fun. If you need a partner in crime, let me know. I'm a newbie though and only average about 18 mph.
