I am training for a sprint tri (my first ever, gulp) at the end of August. Right now the bike and run are totally under control...but the swim has me very concerned. I took swim lessons when I was, oh, seven, but nothing since. Strengthwise, I believe I am up to this. Breathing and form desperately need help, though. Swim coach, here I come!!

Can anyone recommend a good swim coach in the Columbus-ish area?  Please help a newb!

i don't know about individual coaches but there are several maters swimming programs that would keep you moving
if learning to swim better is the issue, adult swimming classes are available from most rec centers and Y's.

a coach is good for some but may not be what you need

if you want some swim help and/or someone to help with workouts i go to Columbus Tuttle pool

iif i remember right you are out near newark?

if so give the denison univeristy coach a call, about a 3rd of the swim team there does private lessons for good prices, and they are VERY VERY good swimmers and coaches.

I belong to Columbus Sharks Masters team.  They are very good about working with newbies on form etc.  Close to downtown and I can get my swim in early in the morning before work.

Let me know if you want more info.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone--much appreciated. I think I will try Denison since I am so close by. If that doesn't work out I'll look into one of the masters programs. The Y has adult swim programs but they have not been so great about getting back to me as to availlability of classes, etc. so I am taking things into my own hands.

I wanted to come back to this thread and say thanks again--I am going to Denison this week to get some coaching . . . think I'll go 2x/week until my tri (end of August) and do my other swim days at my regular pool. I am VERY excited to be getting some professional help!!

I wish I could find someone to help out at the Dublin Rec Center. I am reading through the TI book and trying the best I can but I agree the swim is making me nervous. I just get out of breath so quick when doing the swim.

That was the story of my life, but even after just 2 sessions with the coach I feel like a whole different swimmer. I am going to work with him a couple times per week until the tri, and I think it'll make all the difference in the world.

Good luck with your search!! Maybe someone here will see your post and recommend.
