General question.  10 weeks out from IMWI.  I've been doing my long Sunday runs in the hills.  Being hills, I'm running at a slower pace (12:30) than I could maintain in the flats.  Since the run course at WI doesn't look all that hilly, am I better off training at closer to race-pace (9:00-10:00) in flatter areas for the 2.5+ hours, or pounding in the hills?

don't be fooled into thinking IMWI run course is flat. it's not, it's got rolling hills with a couple sections of nice flat areas but there are at least 5 significant "climbs" (one being on campus and it's a bear) that you'll do twice on the 2 loop course.

i would recommend training on both. what I did for my long runs was trained on a course that had about 5 miles of flat road at the beginning and end and then had rolling hills in the middle. then I also incorporated force hill runs where I would do hill repeats on during the week 1x per week no less frequent than every other week.

Good luck and maybe we'll see each other that weekend. I'll be there cheering on folks.

What's a signficant climb, in terms of # feet climbed in # distance?   Especially the 'bear'.  Looking forward to meeting you - and ANY advice will bw welcomely (?) accepted!

This is the "bear" as it was referred to earlier.

Click on elev. graph in the upper right to get a look at the climb. It's not a fun hill.
