Given the water temps in the past and the fact that I don't believe this race has been even close to wetsuit legal either of the past 2 years should I even bother getting/renting a wetsuit?  Obviously if it's wetsuit legal due to rain or whatever I'd hate to miss out on that.

It won't be. Save your money and the space in your suitcase.

Good luck!

I brought one last year, since I drove to the race.  The most use it got was being taken out of my car and brought to my room.  Long story short, you won't need one unless the ice age hits.

I'd rather watch that on youtube than have the IMKY swim be wetsuit legal!

Youtube... man I'd like to see that in person... okay maybe not.

I'll be wearing a speedsuit, but I'd say its unlikely to be wetsuit legal.

Stop, no and don't is my advice!  If youre driving from Richmond and you have one already, wont hurt to toss it in the car, but I wouldnt make preparations to get one.

LOL, yeah it's not like I have a long way to go, I just know that when I get ready to pack I'll be so nervous that if I don't have a list of things to get then I'll forget something.  I don't have one yet, but was going to rent one just in case.  I can't see buying one, because in this area it seems unlikely it would get very much use.

Yes, pack the wetsuit.  Put in on first thing on race morning.  And when you start dripping in sweat waiting for the race to start, take it off and thank the Lord that you don't have to wear that hot, heavy thing today!

Seriously, you will not need it.  The water is luke!

at the last minute last year I threw mine in my truck. Took it back out when I got home and hung it back up.

I wouldn't bother, you won't need it, or want it.

Watch out for the piranha though

No, it's super-sized catfish he needs to be worried about!

Although we did a number of dead fish floating along the banks... so there might not be too much to worry about!

No worries.  After IMKY 2008 Abbie went back to the Ohio River with a fishing pole and a Zebco 303 reel and caught that giant catfish!  She carved him up for catfish steaks and made a swim suit out of his hide!

Mike, you have seen the style of swimsuits I wear!  I made an entire fashion line of catfish bikinis!

The Corps of Engineers puts Ohio River water temps on-line. If you're not sure, check the temps before you leave for Louisville and decide whether to toss it in.
