Subject: trail rash 2 days before race day....what to do?
On my last training ride, I went a little overboard (literally) on my mountain bike.  About 1/4 mile into the ride I went head-over-bars and took the brunt of it on my elbow and knee.  Ribs are a little sore now but what I'm worried about is the scabs.  Should I lather up with vasoline before the swim at Xterra Rocky Gap?  Will it last through the swim?  Will I have to reapply it in T1?  Don't worry about it?  Looking for some veteran advice..

This happened to me a couple of months ago. Johnson and Johnson, have some large water proof band aids; these and neosporin work wonders. Yes lube up with vasaline and a band aid before the swim. After that I wouldn't worry about it until after the race. I took care of my wounds before the race, then cleaned and re-medicated as soon as I was done racing.

Tegaderm is great stuff, if you can find it. (It's also slightly pricey.) I used Tegaderm on some problem road rash areas, and it was all fine. If you haven't yet shaved around the wounded areas, do so before you try to apply the Tegaderm patches.

x2  Tegaderm is the way to go.  Sometimes hard to find but if you know anyone in the sports medicine area they almost ALWAYS have stock piles of it.
