Swim
Comments: Harder than I thought it would be. Definatley need to practice this more. My wetsuit would have been nice. Felt like I was sinking and use alot of energy swimming 'uphill'. I was bummed getting out of the water and totally gassed, sort of set a bad tone for the rest of the race. What would you do differently?: Bring wetsuit. Train better. Transition 1
Comments: First one. Got my HR down. What would you do differently?: Move more quickly. Bike
Comments: Got my bearings and had a great ride. Still 11/16 for AG, but my time was right around where I predicted. Only thing to do here is practice. What would you do differently?: Go faster. Transition 2
Comments: Totall screwed this up. I think I got out of transition in 0:45 or less, but after about 50M I realized that I forgot my race belt/number. I freaked out and ran back into transtion and got it. I lost over a minute, and it go in my head, so my run was way below average. What would you do differently?: Not be such a tool. Run
Comments: As previously stated, the T2 screw-up got in my head, and I had a terrible run. I was hoping to break 23:00. Post race
Warm down: Was upset at finish. Hard get too excited since I had a tough swim and T2/run was all messed up. But after I saw my wife and kids and my son high-fived me and hugs all around, I felt accomplished. Ate some snacks and headed out. What limited your ability to perform faster: Being a newbie, and a non-swimmer. I think I underestimated the effort required to race 500M in open water versus swimming it in the pool. Event comments: My first Tri will always be memorable. I learned a ton and next year will break 1:15 Last updated: 2009-02-06 12:00 AM

Starting the day before, I realized that I forgot my wetsuit at home 2 hours away. I was freaking out for a bit, but went to the park and swam a little with my Tri-Shorts and felt OK, so I swam without it.
Could not get to sleep until midnight the night before. Set alarm on my cell phone for 5:15, but the batteries died. Luckily the power down tone woke me at 3:45, but I did not fall back asleep. Left 40' before Transition opened for a 40' ride there, but got lost and arrived 15' after intended arrival time.
Set up transition. Jogged for 5' and rode around the campground for 10'. Did not bring extra shoes, so I walked around barefoot for the 1:25 from Transition area Closing to my wave.
