Subject: RE: Bad Pool MathUuuh, when I swam in HS we used laps vs lengths. For instance, when we were practicing backstroke starts, we would be told to "start, focus on perfect form, swim one length, practice flipping onto stomach, flip turn and stop. Exit the pool and walk back to start to wait." (I should say, these were lanes that regularly had 6-8 people in them, so circling back wouldn't work when practicing starts. ) In any case, length definitely meant "to the other end" and lap meant "back to where you started." This was a team with a LOT of highly competitive club swimmers as well, and I never heard them call out any discrepancy. I've used those terms with those meanings for many years and never had anyone look at me like WTF? |
