Comments: This was really an experiment for me. I lost a lot of 5K (fast twitch) fitness while training for the HIM, and it's not coming back very quickly. I started out the race at my "great" 5K pace (8:00), just to see how it felt -- and it felt terrible. I hadn't intended to run the whole race at that pace, but I thought I could hold on longer. So then I backed off to my "good" 5K pace (8:30), but even that was killing me. So I just ran it at a somewhat uncomfortable pace instead. What would you do differently?: This race really was an experiment, to see what I need to do to improve. I think the experiment worked fine, but I'm disappointed with how far I need to go to get it back again. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: First, the heat and humidity (it is Florida and it is July!). But secondly (and most importantly) I haven't been working hard enough! Event comments: I always want to know how I did with respect to others in my AG, and no results were posted! And believe it or not, my "age group" at this race was 40 and up -- whoever heard of such a thing??? And the awards only went one deep, so I was more than likely competing against a 40 year old. Hmm... Last updated: 2009-07-13 12:00 AM

Coffee, but nothing to eat. My stomach was bothering me.
Ran a mile at a 9:29 pace, and started the sweat-fest early!
