NewB with bike question Trek 5000

I have been looking for a bike for a couple months now, I have only ever ridden a Mtn. bike.  I have a budget of about $500 and less and have looked at bikesdirect.com and have found a few online (ebay and craiglist).  There is just so much information out there, it can be confusing at times.  Does this seem like a good deal for $375?  I just don't want to get taken on my first bike purchase in 15 years.
