V1per41 - 2009-07-22 9:55 AM Counted one person at my pool took 37 and had a pace of about 3:00/100.  He's there pretty frequently, but doesn't spend anytime trying to improve his form and it shows.
There is a pool near me that is 20 yds (yup, that's not a typo) and I once counted someone getting 35 strokes/length there.

35 for just the length?  Are you sure he was swimming? or were you just counting how many times he threw his arms in the air while he was drowning?  lol jk

OK, you have me giggling in my cube here. The amazing part was how much splashing was involved. Since most of the "serious" swimmers go to the other Y that has a 25 yd pool, you see some interesting stuff at this Y with the short pool (is that like the short bus...?) There was the time that I saw one guy "coaching" another guy, and let's just say that I don't think the "coach" was doing under 3:00/100... well, it was hard to tell since he had to rest after every 20 yds (1 length.)

I was doing 14-16, but got some coaching, and she wanted me to up my cadence because I was coasting and losing momentum during and exaggerated reach.

I am consistently at 19-20 per 25 and I swim my 50 normally in 0:50-1:00. I am 5'3.

Hahaha!  Ya yesterday I was sharing a lane with 2 guys with 1 teaching the other how to "front crawl."  Of course I found that the "coaches" methods were a bit unorthodox as he kept his head out of the water the entire time and claimed he was on the swim team in highschool.  The other guy didn't know how to swim at all but the last part of the conversation I caught was, "I think your full of... (face underwater between strokes)... I need a new teacher..."

Did long course at lunch. 30 - 31 strokes in a 50 meter pool.

hahahaha. Sometimes I see people like that and I literally feel a need to go in there and give them pointers (although I don't).

And to tjfry - 30-31 strokes per 50m?! How do you do that?! I got mine to 37 this morning (once) in 50m and I was gliding like crazy and my time was pretty slow approaching 1:03). Do you use a lot of arm muscle or are you just super aerodynamic?!?

I guess it's a bit of both. I blame it on swimming for 3 decades.

Unless I'm in a dead sprint, I'm 12 strokes per 25 yrds.  I don't remember that changing for years.
