Hey guys, this is my first year doing triathlons but I quickly became addicted to them and have been looking at some races for the rest of the summer and was wondering if anyone has done the St. Croix Valley Tri in Hudson, WI. I was thinking about possibly doing one more olympic distance race but am unsure what ones might be good, including this one. Let me know if you have any thoughts or suggestions. thanks in advance...

Done the sprint twice, never the long course. Swim very shallow, which is good for me (walked the whole thing one year). Bike is probably better on the long course - the short course is congested and there is a pretty significant hill halfway through that makes for somewhat dangerous racing with cyclists in bunches going slow up one side and cyclists tearing down the other side (I was riding the brakes quite a bit to stay under 35 mph) all while cars try to get through because the road isn't closed (not much traffic, but throw one SUV pulling a boat into the mix like I saw last year and it gets interesting). Run is pretty uneventful on city streets. Big feed afterward, I believe.

I like the event for an end-of-season low-key race and will probably do it on a reasonably regular basis because it is on the right end of town for me.

Hi! My hubby and I live in Arizona, but we will be up in northern Wisconsin for Labor Day weekend. He is bringing his bike to compete in the St. Croix triathlon (sprint). Because it's SOOO expensive to bring the bike on the airplane, I'm leaving mine at home.

Would anyone be interested in doing the St. Croix sprint as a team relay?  I am not fast, so this would be purely for fun, but I'm willing to do both swim and run legs, or just run if there's a team that needs a runner. I can even do just the swim if you need a swimmer, although I am REALLY slow on the swim (I usually make it up on the bike, and pass a few more people on the run, but the bike is not an option this time).

PM me if you are interested. Thanks!

Have you thought of bike rental?  My wife and I recently took an anniversary trip to Park City.  We were able to rent (carbon fiber) road bikes for a half day ($28).  I think a full day was only $10 more.

I've never rented bikes in the Twin Cities, but here's a few places that do:

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the suggestion on bike rental, but I don't think that's a possibility for this race. We're flying in Friday night, and I wouldn't expect bike shops to be open before the 7 a.m. Saturday start time.

If we weren't staying in Tomahawk, WI (about three hours drive east of Hudson) for the rest of the weekend, we'd do the Olympic on Sunday instead, and that would have given me more time to rent a bike.  We are going to be up there for a family reunion, and the St. Croix sprint is just a bonus we're trying to sneak in without family knowing that we are really that nuts!
