Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 44/45
Pre-race routine:

Set up my stuff and returned my bag to my car. Tried to relax and not think about the lack of training.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 07m 49s
  • 350 meters
  • 02m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

Should have trained more. First 50 was fine, then it all fell apart. I was actually happy when the lane backed up and I could switch to breast stroke to catch a break. I did get some compliments on my shark swim cap, but I was too wiped to really thank them.
What would you do differently?:

Train. Get up to 25% longer course and practice speed bursts to simulate passing people.
Transition 1
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

Tried the flying mount; should have practiced that once or twice before. Tore one of my shoes off and almost face planted. Walked back and got my shoe, put it on and sheepishly mounted the bike. Took me a 1/2 mile to get into my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions more.
Bike
  • 49m 30s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.55 mile/hr
Comments:

Should have ridden more. Felt like puking several times and quitting a few times as well. I had checked my computer ahead of time and didn't know that the sensor was out of place, so not speed or cadence info throughout.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more and ride harder. It's not just a time thing, intensity matters.
Transition 2
  • 02m 13s
Comments:

I managed not to kill myself dismounting, so that was probably the first good thing of the day. Walked my bike in, racked it, got my socks and shoes on and walked out.
What would you do differently?:

Actually nothing.
Run
  • 48m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 15m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

Walked almost the entire course. I just knew that I didn't have a run in me and with 2 side cramps and 1 calf cramp I figured I shouldn't push it. A woman came running by and patted my butt so I'm not sure if she was encouraging me or hitting on me.
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat a minute, then walked about and waited for my wife to finish her first triathlon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training. I do think my mental attitude held me in the race because I wanted to quit several times but didn't.

Event comments:

Good race, I just wasn't prepared.
