Sunny
Total Time = 1h 08m 47s
Overall Rank = 18/243
Age Group = 15-19
Age Group Rank = 1/3
Pre-race routine:

Um... not quite a routine yet, as I have only done one of these so far!

Just got all my stuff together, filled up my tires, and I was off.
Event warmup:

Rode to the event, jogged around walker lake, stretched.
Swim
  • 09m 2s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

I got in about the right area for the time-trial start. I let a few people pass me at the wall, slowed my time down a bit. One of those people I let pass bonked around 300 yards in front of me, slowing me down quite a bit.

The swim time included T1
What would you do differently?:

More time in the pool. I really improved with my swimming coach's help.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Part of the swim time. Went fairly well. I need to wear a triathlon top so I don't have to waste time getting in a cycling/running jersey
What would you do differently?:

Getting a tri top
Bike
  • 36m 28s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 20.24 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 00m 39s
Comments:

I had a good spot, ran up to it with little problem
Run
  • 22m 38s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

I was fine UNTIL MY RIB STARTED TO HURT AGAIN. I believe this is due to the fact I ran out of my preventative inhaler 4 days prior to the race and believing that I can just use my rescue inhaler to get rid of all the symptoms. WRONG!

Still had a decent run time, If I had been able to keep a higher pace instead of worrying about my rib hurting like the dickens.

The other guy in my age group caught up to me and passed me by about 10 seconds, but he had started the swim much earlier than I, and I absolutely ROCKED on the bike today.

Having him at my back really allowed me to push myself through the pain of the rib, and sprint to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

TAKE MY PREVENTATIVE INHALER REGULARLY
Post race
Warm down:

walking around, stretched out while waiting for results to be posted

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim, asthma; both of these troubles could have been avoided.

Event comments:

Run very well, this is for a great cause. I just wish I could have gotten a medal for being first in my age group.

Volunteers helped control traffic VERY well. Kudos to them. They also helped kick my azz into gear during the run. Great first triathlon,

Totally forgot to comment on the bike... I totally kicked butt on the ride! It went just about perfectly as possible. I felt like I could have done a couple more laps at the same speed. I felt perfectly fine muscle-wise for the run. Only had the "jelly-legs" for my time in T2 and maybe 100 feet after the start of the run.

Good job to all who finished!

My triathlon coach ended up racing this one; one of her other clients was sick and gave the spot to her. She ended up being the top female finisher, and I was less than a minute slower than her on the bike.
