Total Time = 1h 31m 8s
Overall Rank = 183/317
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 29/41
Pre-race routine:

Stayed in Lincoln the night before so me and my daughter wouldn't have to get up so early. Not sure if that was wise or not. Daughter didn't like her bed so she crawled in with me and woke me up numerous times during the night. Up and showered. Powerbar and milk for breakfast and off to the event. Racked the bike and hung around with a few friends and family.
Event warmup:

Listened to the prerace instructions.
Swim
  • 17m 44s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Seemed like a really big wave. Started at the rear of the group since swimming is usually my weakest link. Soon I was in the water swimming away. Water felt really comfortable and it didn't take my breath away like normal. Started passing people soon into my swim. Was really surprised by this. A little hard to sight on the way out since we were looking for orange bouys with a bunch of orange hats around. Made the turn and felt good. Hard to sight on the way back in do to looking into the sun every time I breathed. Got a little left of the bouy line but made it back ok. Really happy with this swim.

What would you do differently?:

More swim training. Only 1000 yards this month doesn't cut it.
Transition 1
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

Suit got a little stuck on heels but other than that ok transition.

2007-1:49
2009-2:17
Bike
  • 39m 36s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Heart rate was up coming out of the water. Tried to get it down on the first part of the bike. Hills were kind of a killer but used the downhills to my advantage. Passed Justing shortly after the start of the bike and knew I had to get way ahead of him to keep the lead in our friendly little race. Lots of passing going on with this many bikes on the course. Bike felt good and maybe could have pushed a little harder.

What would you do differently?:

More bike training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

Ok transistion, could have been a little quicker.

2007-0:56
2009-1:29
Run
  • 30m 5s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Came off the bike and my legs felt really tired. Hoped they would perk up knowing that Justin is a strong runner and would be coming hard. Walked the first aid station right out of transition to get a drink and relax the legs. Ran a good pace with fellow BT'er Slowone for the first 3/4 of a mile before she decided to speed up. Walked the next aid station and that is where Justin passed me. Legs just felt tired and heavy. Made it to the turn around and headed for home. Walked the aid station on the way back in and ran the rest of the way home. Legs finally felt better at about mile 2.5 but it was a little late. Grabbed my daughter and ran across the finish line.

2007-29:15
2009-30:05
What would you do differently?:

More run training and more bricks.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and talked with family and friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Like always training. Need more consistant training. Missing six of the last seven days was no help.

I feel really good about this race. Still looking for a race where I come in and put everything together. This really helped my confidence in the swim. This is a really good race, very well run. Extremely happy and looking forward to my next race.

Good job, Jeffrey!  It's awesome to see how much you've improved from just 2 years ago.  Maybe next year we can all do this one together!  (Kids included)
