Subject: Cycling question
I have a HIM on September 27th (Augusta).

For the next two weeks, I'll be on vacation in a place where riding a bike will just not be feasible. We're going to have a family reunion to celebrate my Great Grandmother's 100th birthday! Anyways, it's kind of remote, there is not really any place to rent a bike, and the roads are full of potholes anyways. There are no gyms, so stationary bikes are out of the question.

My plan was to up my running volume for the next two weeks to compensate for the lack of riding...I'll also be able to swim some (plan on spending alot of time at the beach), but running will be my focus.

Are there any things I can do to compensate for my lack of cycling? Will the increase in running make up for that drastic decrease in cycling? I know the rules about increasing volume, but I think I can handle a jump of between 25-40% in volume easily if I'm not cycling. it'll be mostly at a Z2 effort.

Thanks for any useful tips or suggestions!

assuming you have been biking enough up to now, just keep with the run/swim.

you wont lose that much if you keep up the running that it will be an issue, and frankly, even if it was it sounds like you cant do much about it.

get in some quality running and swimming, and you'll be fine. just be ready to hit the bike hard when you get home.

Driving or flying? If you're driving you can throw the trainer in and get some trainer time at Gma's house. Just an idea...if you're flying then that would most likely be a huge hassle.

First, don't stress over missing a bit of biking... as long as you have reasonable bike fitness already before leaving, just do your running and swimming, and compensate the cyling, by adding a few sessions of strength training (and no, you do not need a gym for that, you already have the perfect weight for you with you... you body) and stretch as much as you can. Taking time off to clear the mind can help you a lot come race day, so why not taking this trip as something positive?
