I finished my second century ride yesterday, the Sunrise Century - http://www.bikerpelli.com/Sunrise_Century/index.php

Awesome ride. 100 miles (obviously), 7000 feet of elevation gain total (36 miles of uphill pedal pushing), and for me 7 hours 5 minutes, plus breaks. (Should I report that as 8 hours 30 minutes or is 7 hours 5 minutes accurate - what's the proper way to report my time???)

About half way in I was feeling OK, but I was having some cramp problems in the quads. I grabbed a handful of Sun Chips and felt great within a few minutes, so it would seem I was needing salt. But, I had been drinking CytoMax the whole time. Granted, I also drank a good amount of water, but shouldn't the CytoMax have provided all the electrolytes I needed? I do sweat A LOT, I should mention. I lost approximately 5 pounds on this ride, and at the end my arms looked like salt crusted salmon - literally crusted with salt that had crystallized out of my sweat. Should I be doing something other than CytoMax??

You can report your time as moving time or time spent in the saddle as 7:05 and/or as overall time including breaks ect. as 8:30.

If you tend to sweat heavy definitely you need to supplement your electrolytes beyond just Cytomax and water- I use Enduralytes (theres all kinds of different products) - I pour a few into my sports drink and take a few every hour and i'm good to go.

Thanks for the tips on Endurolytes. The description on the Hammer web page is EXACTLY what I experienced. I'll pick some up before my next century ride.

I find that I crave salt when I ride a century even with electrolyte drink, so Enduralites or other salt delivery device would work fine but I choose to use regular food since I'm looking for more calories anyway.  Good salty foods are:  peanut butter crackers, cheetos, and ginger snaps.

I agree that I would like to get it from the "more food" method, but I'm concerned that I'm losing so much that I can't quite get it from food alone. Like I mentioned before, when I was finished, my forearms looked like I had rolled in salt - I was quite literally crusted with salts. I wonder if in addition to my normal food and CytoMax (or other) I need a periodic bulk electrolyte supplement along the way for these long rides.
