hey guys, i have a serious question for all of you competative triathletes. we are having quite a discrepancy over the swim time for a mile. a girl at my local pool where i am training is telling me it should take me about an hour, however someone else i know just did a triathlon in Fla and she said she did the mile swim in about 30min.......what is the average time for a mile swim?????

A mile is 1609 meters -

an hour for a mile is around 4:00 min/100m pace.
1/2 hour is around 2:00 min/100m pace

contains a poll w/BT member's usual swim pace.

WR is under 15 minutes for 1500M. Hour would be a good time for an Ironman swim.

I just swam 1500m in the pool today, which is roughly 110 m short of a mile, and was timed in 27 min.

I am a relatively new swimmer.

That girl at the local pool you were talking too doesn't really know pace for a mile I guess.

A dead man can float a mile in 1 hour.   ha ha ha

But there are people that swim slower than that! I was at my old pool last week and the normal "performance" lane wasn't there, juts the "fitness" lane.  I was doing legs only breast stroke and still going faster than some in there - I don't know how they do it, I sink at that speed.

"A dead man can float a mile in 1 hour." Oh, thank God, this is such a relief!! Cause when I swim, the scene has been described as one with a movie prop corpse floating face-down in the pool of a cheap motel at night............and that was from a friend!!

I'm a slow one too. I'm planning on taking about an hour and that's WITH training.
I just want to start, swim and get out!
