Subject: wet suit made me lazy?
I've been only swimming in my wet suit for the past month in prep for my first half iron. There was a large green blob with red specs in it on the radar last night (thunderstorms) so I opted to skip my OWS and headed for the indoor pool... and it sucked!

I felt slow and heavy in the water. I was very tired after 1000 yards, and just HTFU and finished out a 1400yrd set.

Anyone else get that after swimming a lot in a wet suit?

No personal experience;

Wetsuits do make you more buoyant, so I would assume you'll feel much heavier in the water.  Suits also make you faster so I would assume you will be slower and/or require more effort to swim.

The same thing happened to me last night after doing only ows in a wet suit for the past few months. It sure felt like I lost some stamina and was somewhat discouraging. Any insite would be much appreciated.

mix up your workouts between the pool and ows.  i do one ows a week and one pool swim a week where i work on drills and intervals.  once a week in the pool for me is enough to not feel 'heavy' without a wetsuit.

you don't always need to wear a wetsuit during OWS.  use your swimsuit in ow practice swims.

<sarcasm>
oh sure, easy things like "swim in the pool more" and "swim with out the wet suit"
And I know I can swim OW with no wet suit, but with out a wet suit how will people know i'm a triathlete?
</sarcasm>

After last night, I'm definitely going to spend a day in the pool a week to keep from feeling heavy.

Thanks for the common sense, I need reminders!

Unfortunately, you're dressing the opposite of most competitive swimmers:  they like to add drag (within reason) while training and then unleash their increased hydrodynamics garnered through better/smaller suits while competing.

Unless it's necessary, I'd drop the wetsuit-you're certainly not doing it any favors in terms of longevity by wearing it all of the time.
