Brandon Wilmoth is a guy in the area that offers swim training. Here is a post from the MS Heat web forums:
Hello Triathletes!
Thank you for your patience as I have been establishing my certifications to be able to offer swim instruction in the area. I will be working with Baptist Health Systems and will utilize their Healthplex facility in downtown Jackson
(717 Manship Street
). There is no need to be a member of the Healthplex. Being a client of mine will gain you access to the facility for the swim sessions!
I will be offering private sessions Mondays between 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm and Thursdays between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. The coaching package consists of 4x30 minute sessions
(one per week
) for $150. I will utilize drills and instruction to help you meet your personal swimming goals, whether that be as a fitness swimmer or competitive triathlete.
Please let me know if this is something that you may be interested in an we can schedule your first session! You can reach me directly at
[email protected].
Thanks!
Brandon Wilmoth
Also, there are group swims at Reunion Lake every Thursday at 5:30 PM. Also from the MS Heat Forum:
OPEN WATER SWIMS - THURSDAY EVENINGS @ 6:00 P.M.
REUNION LAKE - MADISON COUNTY (off Hwy 463)
Join us for our non-competitive open water training swims on Thursdays at 6:00 PM. We are guests of Reunion residents Pete Bohan and Holly Morgan.
Rules: Swimmers must be with a Reunion property owner. Arrive at 6 PM, with a 6:15 PM start from the beach.
Wear a bright colored swim cap and note that you swim at your own risk. There are no lifeguards.
Directions:
Take the Madison Exit off I-55 and go west on Hwy 463, past Colony Crossing Shopping Center, past St. Joe High School, and past Annandale. Turn right into the main entrance to Reunion. Lake is straight ahead on your right. If the guard is at the gate and asks your purpose, tell him you are meeting Pete (lives at 163 Reunion Blvd.) or Holly (lives at 103 Thompson Ln.) at the lake.
They say anywhere between 4-15 show up, all levels of swimmers. I used to go out there often, but it's just too far to go now that I can't sneak away from work early. I'm hoping to start some Sunday afternoon swims in the reservoir again sometime soon. We had anywhere between 1-10 show up for those when we were getting ready for New Orleans and the Heatwave. I think enough people are doing Augusta that there will be need for it. I'll post here if we get something going as well as on the Heat website.
Speaking of which... here is the team site: MS Heat Tri Team
We're not even a full year old yet with the team and we have over 130 members already. Plus, Soak up the Sun (the sprint tri we host) boomed to 400 participants from 183 last year. You get some cool stuff, a shirt and visor I think, plus it's where all the rides, runs, swims, parties, etc. are posted. It's only $20 a year and we'll have the team kits back up for sale soon. See ya round.
