Subject: nose bleeds while running
My son is training for his upcoming cross country season. He is 15 years old and is 5 foot 8 inches tall and pretty skinny kid, low to no body fat. Super good athlete and is in shape all year. He is putting in around 100 to 115 miles a month currently, and has recently started getting nose bleeds for no real reason. sometimes at bedtime, sometimes just watching TV. today he was out on a six miler and had to go home at a mile short because his nose started bleeding and wouldn't quit. I have a few ideas, from when I wrestled in high school, iron deficit, etc. I just wanted to see if any one had any ideas, or treatments that he might be able to try?

Take him to an E.N.T, (Otolaryngologist)  They will look up in his nose, hopefully isolate the vessel that's causing the problem and cauterize it.   Short of that I'd suggest "Ocean Nasal Spray" to keep the nasal passages moist.  Does he have a lot of seasonal allergies causing inflamation/sneezing/etc, right now?

Most kids nosebleeds are a local issue.  Irritation.  Vessle too close to surface.  Nose picking.  Rhitiis (allergic), etc.  Go get it checked out.
